Brently (Brent) W. Free was born in
Amarillo, Texas, in 1965 and moved to New Braunfels, Texas in 1976. After graduating from New Braunfels High
School in 1984, he attended and graduated from Texas A & M University in
1988 with a BBA in Accounting. Brent
attended St. Mary's School of Law, graduating in 1991 Cum Laude with a Juris
Doctorate degree.
Brent was licensed to practice law
in 1991 and began his legal career as an Attorney with the District Counsel's
Office of the Internal Revenue Service, handling Tax Court litigation,
Bankruptcy Cases and IRS Collection matters. Appointed as a Special Assistant to the United
States Attorney's office in 1993, Brent also handled IRS matters in Bankruptcy
Court. Brent left Government service in
November of 1995 to enter private practice in New Braunfels. In 2013, Brent formed Brently W.
Free, LLC to continue providing legal services to both individuals and businesses
in Comal and surrounding counties.
Brent is Board Certified-Tax Law by
the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and frequently works with Corporations, Partnerships, Limited Liability Companies and small businesses in addressing
formation issues, operational issues and federal tax issues faced by these
entities. Estate Planning, Wills, Trust formation, Probate, Probate litigation, and business litigation are also a routine part of Brent's practice. He counsels
and assists clients in resolving issues with the Internal Revenue Service,
whether through an offer in compromise, installment agreement or litigation in
the United States Tax Court.
A significant portion of Brent’s
practice is focused on estate planning for both large and small estates. He considers each client’s individual needs
and works to insure that the client not only understands what assets they have,
but how they will be passed on to the next generation.

Brent is married and has two
children.
